The last Monday of September!
Thank you to the parents who were able to come with us on our walks this month. The weather sure cooperated.
You will notice that there are 15 spelling words written in your child's agenda today. As I explained to them, the first 10 are the regular spelling words. The last 5, however, are different in that during the test on Friday they will be able to look in their personal dictionaries or on the word wall to help them with the correct spelling. We call these "No Excuse" words. They may not necessarily have them memorized but they must know where to find them and spell correctly in all their writing, not just the test. The other 10 are mostly phonetic so they should be able to sound them out or use their knowledge of word families to help. There are no offical challenge words this week but feel free to make these "no excuse" words a challenge. Can they spell them without looking?
Next week we will be making Stone Soup in the classroom. Your child will come home with a vegetable to bring on Tuesday, October 7th to contribute to this soup. More information will come later this week. Thank you ahead of time for your help with this.
October Scholastic forms will come home on Wednesday. Please have them back to me by next Tuesday, October 7th.

Week 4
Happy First Day of Fall!
I was away this past weekend in Vancouver for my brother's wedding and I just got back last night. New spelling words should have come home yesterday and here are the challenge words:
battle
buffalo
Lethbridge
I had a peek at the spelling tests from last week and there were some good scores. Awesome work!
A couple of quick reminders:
Thursday is Library day so please help remind your child to have their books back by then.
Friday is the Terry Fox Walk. Have them dress in layers! Who knows what the weather will be like?
Along with the official pledge form that came home last week, we are having a Twoonie Drive to help raise money for the Terry Fox Foundation. Sometimes that is a little more feasible to collect from people.
Thank you for all your help!

Happy Monday!
Today your child is coming home with a spelling list of 10 words in their agenda. These words will usually have a theme (this week is short A). They may seem simple but please practice - you would be surprised what words get misspelled.
On this blog each week I will put 3 challenge words if you choose to practice them as well.
Friday there will be a test of the 10 words plus the challenge words - if they choose. There is no official spelling homework worksheets so it will be up to each family to practice as they see fit.
Challenge words:
butterfly
caterpillar
ladybug
If you have any questions, feel free to send me an email.
